Ones To Watch (less than 30k) Liv Purvis AKA What Olivia Did

Meet your new girl crush. You may already be aware of Liv through her blog What Olivia Did but her YouTube channel has less then 14,000 followers.

What Olivia Did the YouTube channel reflects her blog beautifully with city guides, baking videos, how to  do the perfect eye liner flick and retro style look-books. Her opening shots in Monthly favourite videos are simply divine and have a lovely stylish and relaxing tone. One other thing I have noticed is that her fashion and beauty choices are slightly more unique as the fashion and beauty vloggers have become more close knit their fashion choices merge together. With Olivia you are more likely to be introduced to new brands and products you haven't seen all over instagram.

Watch Olivia if you like: Sixties style, London, baking, Wes Anderson, pastel colours, Paris, a hint of leopard print, stationary, vinyls, cat eye, stripy tops and Lulu Guiness.

How To Emulate Your Favourite Vloggers Background

Oh to have a sightly blurred space filled with fairy lights, candles and fresh flowers. The backgrounds of YouTube videos are becoming just as important as the makeup and hair, the glimpse of interior is an extension of the style and personality they want to portray to their viewers.

There has become a certain type of aesthetic that is associated with vloggers and bloggers such as the marble backgrounds and fresh tulips. As many beauty and fashion vloggers get older they often move their content to being more lifestyle and interior focused such as Ghost Parties AKA Kate La Vie. It's not just the same beauty products that you see cropping up in videos but homewear pieces too.

Here is a selection of my favourite pieces that I have spied in vloggers backgrounds:

This Christmas a lot of brands and management agencies gifted YouTubers such as Alix from I Covet Thee Corsley record players, this rose gold one is beautiful.

West Elm is a new interior favourite with Lily Pebbles and Vivianna Does Make Up. The West Elm decorative words have been in countless vloggers backgrounds including Amelia Liana, Kate La Vie and Corrie from Dizzy Brunette.

These big spoon, little spoon pillow cases are commonly associated with the Zalfie Pad. They are actually by Old English Company and are available at not on the highstreet.

Lets be honest even with the plainest of backgrounds a vase of fresh flowers will instantly lift the room which is why so many bloggers and vloggers love picking up flowers. Bloom & Wild actually offer flower subscriptions so you can have new flowers for each weekly video.

Is Jack Howard Right About YouTube?

Unless you have spent the past few weeks in a idyllic cottage in the remote country side with only Beatrix Potter books for company you may not have seen Jack Howard's videos discussing his current disappointment with the content that is being created by famous YouTubers.

I do not agree with all points Jack Howard made as I do not look to YouTube for top quality content (if I want superbly scripted comedy I look to the BBC) I do find myself a feeling a bit left out as I do not feel that many YouTubers are aimed at my demographic. Instead so many lifestyle vloggers choose to aim themselves to pre teens despite them being a closer age to myself (aged 22 and with some disposable income to actually spend on products they advertise). As Jack Howard pointed out there is something very silly with grown adults talking about school and in the beauty and fashion community creating back to school tutorials and joining in on TopShop trends that anyone older than 17 would eye roll at.

With Vloggers earning more and more money from their YouTube careers their spending habits are also changing. Hauls have progressed from Primark and ASOS to Givenchy and Celine. These new high end videos are certainly not aimed at the pre teens but their personalities are with screeches and giggles as they show of their "pretty" new purchases, when instead they could be giving saving tips, and information on the quality and actual shopping experience. I like to the think I am not the only 22 year old who watches YouTubers on a regular basis and personally I would LOVE to see "What To Wear To Work" or "What To Wear For A Job Interview" but instead I get prom dresses and ripped jeans. Often when I go into my YouTube subscriptions it is filled with the all the same content, how many monthly favourites, ASOS hauls and gold/bronze make up tutorials can one watch.

There are a few vloggers out there who act as an exception to the rule and aim towards a more mature audience such as A Model Recommends, Lily and Vivianna who discuss motherhood, super simple yet expensive items from COS and early nights yet I just can't seem to relate to either. Maybe I am just at the awkward in-between stage in life (resist urge not to sing Britney Spears Not a Girl Not Yet A Woman). At the moment Fleur De Forces vlog channel is a mixture of dog walks, cooking with her husband, pubs and shopping trips and takeaways with her parents is kind of on my wave length.

Do you also find yourself struggling to find a YouTuber that you can connect with and that you feel is aimed at you?

Ones To Watch (less than 30k): Chase Amie

Designer handbag and shoe unboxing videos are always good at bringing in views but less so at bringing in likes. They are hard videos to pull off without getting accused of being snobby,  excessive and un-relatable. Chase Amie with her soothing voice and no high pitched squeals and giggling in sight she is aiming at the young professional woman who choose to treat themselves to luxury items that they can wear to work and to cocktails. Fresh faced make-up, glossy hair and classy dress sense she teams H&M clothing with LK Bennett shoes and Chanel handbags.

Amie comes across as sweet, sensible and an honest YouTuber who justifies each purchase and is knowledgable about the products she talks about. There is no shade when it comes to prices or selling items she no longer loves.

Her highlights include; how to save for a Chanel handbag, best and worst designer purchases, how and where to buy pre owned Chanel and shoe and bag hauls.

Watch Amie if you like: Designer handbags, roses, Chanel, champagne truffles, London, Cath Kidston, Tiffany, pink tones, florals, Paris, Sex And The City and fresh faced makeup.
